The patch format is "xdelta", which can be applied using xdeltaUI: xdeltaUI in RHDN https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/ About the game ======================================================================================== "Goemon Shin Sedai Shuumei" ("Goemon - The Successor for a New Generation") is a single-player action platformer with light exploration elements and first-person mech battles. It's the last Goemon game released on the original PlayStation. As a Japan-exclusive, late PS1 game, it's often overlooked, even by fans of the franchise, who were turned off by the drastic change in style and tone. It also didn't include a two-player cooperative mode, another franchise staple. Looking at it by its own merits though, it's a challenging and polished action platformer with a beautiful presentation, and great soundtrack on top of all. It's a recommended playthrough for anyone looking out for quality overlooked 2D action platformers of the era. As a piece of gaming history, it's one of the swan songs of an era that was about to fade away: that of the 2D action platformers as main console releases. A trend that would take an entire console generation to come back in some capacity. If anything, this attempt to adapt a well-known franchise for a more mainstream audience -unsuccessful for the franchise as it was-, is a demonstration of the compromises game studios had to go through to keep making games of this genre and value during this era, where the market was pushing them to lower budget handheld releases. Ironically, the down-scaled GBA port this game got was a taste of what was in store for the genre. About the translation ======================================================================================== This is a complete translation. The whole script has been translated, as well as the video subtitles -covering up the original game's hardcoded japanese subtitles-, menus, and every single in-game graphic with any text on them. The bulk of the script can be found on the mostly-optional town dialogues and side-quests. So, while the game was technically beatable without knowing any japanese, a big part of its content wouldn't have been accessible. Now it is. Enjoy! Game tips ======================================================================================== If you come from other Goemon games, there are changes to the usual formula that, at first glance, make it seem like this will be an easier game than the rest of the series (weapon upgrades being recoverable, and special weapons using energy instead of money). However, the game's overall difficulty greatly makes up for these changes, so it's worth keeping in mind some general tips: - Don't get too attached to money. It's main purpose is to keep you alive. When you get a game over, you lose 1/2 of your current money. So, whenever buying defense items might help you survive a difficult stage, get them. You can buy defense items in every town (red "573" signs). - On the same point, risking a life for a money bag is never worth it. - If you lose a boss battle and still have some remaining lives, you can restock your defense items in a town, save, and even level up your weapons on an easy stage, before going back to retry. - Talk to people in towns using each of your characters. Certain characters will hear unique lines from NPCs. There's a number of side-quests tied to them that will give you permanent upgrades. Some side-quests can only be completed after beating the game, but you can make progress anytime. - In case you've never played a Goemon game before: "Hotels" in towns are where you save your progress. Impact Move List ======================================================================================== Impact Battles will seem long and unfair if you don't use at least some of the special moves. If you've played either of the N64 Goemon games you might be able to figure out a couple of them, but there's some new moves unique to this game. Unfortunately, you don't get any in-game hints for them. They were only shown in the game's manual.
